For this project, we were asked to create button designs that raised awareness for the decreasing bat population.
The central idea behind my button is that bats can be just as cute and lovable as any other animal, and that they don’t have to be seen as threatening or scary. I used soft pastel colors and feminine designs like flowers and stars to convey this message. I also used flowers to highlight the fact that bats are pollinators and are a vital part of our ecosystem. I am satisfied with my final design and I think it does a fairly good job of portraying bats in a positive light.
The final work demonstrates a thorough investigation of the idea through the small format of a button because it highlights the importance of bats’ roles as pollinators while also portraying them as cute and approachable rather than misrepresenting them as frightening and violent.
